The Greater Victoria Citizens’ Counselling Centre is the latest organization to put in an application. They assist adult members of our community to attain socially and psychologically satisfying lives by providing quality, accessible, volunteer counselling services.
Their problem? Here’s what their application said:
“The stigma of suffering from a mental health issue is well documented. The stigma from poverty is as well. Many of our clients navigate through both of these stigmas on a daily basis. When our brave clients come to see their counsellors in an atmosphere that is so clearly suffering from the same lack of financial security that they are, it’s not helpful. It’s also not helpful when we have clients that are more financially able. They are less comfortable here as it is so clearly a building that needs some attention.”
They are looking for a total refresh: new carpet, exterior paint, interior paint, interior design, kitchen install, refurbished bathrooms, new front door… so that their 1200 clients and 120 volunteers can be in cheerful and pleasing environment while they do their emotional and psychological work.
Thank you to the Citizen’s Counselling Center for their application.
