Help HeroWork Support Victoria’s Vulnerable During COVID

Donate shampoo, toothbrushes, and basic hygiene products.

We all do our best to ensure we meet our basic personal needs. But, consider how hard it would be to keep clean if we didn’t have a home and running water. Cleanliness is helping contain the spread of COVID-19 and the most vulnerable populations need our help to do this now.

As a second special initiative together as Your Neighbourhood Response Team, the United Way Greater Victoria, Big Brothers Big Sisters and now the Better Business Bureau serving Vancouver Island and Soap for Hope Canada, will host a collection date for new shampoo, toothbrushes and basic personal hygiene products to help everyone “Keep it Clean”.

Our goal is to collect 2500 of the following new or unopened items:

  • Shampoo and hair conditioner, any size containers
  • Body wash and body lotion
  • Deodorant
  • Toothbrushes, toothpaste, dental floss
  • Sunscreen
  • Razors for men and women
  • Pads, tampons and incontinence products

Here’s how to participate:

  1. Check liquid donations are not leaking and load items in the trunk of your car.
  2. Drive up to any one of the 3 drop-off locations listed below and stay in your vehicle. Volunteers will unload your donations from your trunk.
  3. Follow traffic volunteers to safely exit the drop-off zones.
  4. Finish your errands and go home. Thank you for doing your part to help stop the spread.

On Saturday, April 25th from 10AM to 2PM, drop off your new or unused items to any one of these three locations:

  • Westshore Learning Centre, Parking lot – 2139 Sooke Road, Colwood – please follow the clearly marked signage that indicates the entrance and exit
  • Tulista Park, Parking lot – 9565 Fifth Street, Sidney
  • Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre, Parking lot – 1925 Blanshard Street, Victoria – enter the parking lot off Pembroke Street between Quadra and Blanshard and follow the directions of the traffic volunteers. Please do not enter the parking lot off of Caledonia – this entrance is for the Victoria Police Department only.

Please respect physical distancing by staying in your vehicle at all times and following volunteer instructions. Volunteers will be following safe practices.

Only attend if you are feeling healthy and please try to combine this drop-off with any other errands you need to do to limit your time out in the community and away from your home.

At the end of collection day, all items donated will be quarantined for 5 days before they are distributed back into our community.

Soap for Hope Canada will distribute the items and are working with the Greater Victoria Coalition to End Homelessness, the Aboriginal Coalition to End Homelessness as well as shelters, transitional homes, food banks, low income senior facilities, schools, Indigenous Communities and refugees to provide the hygiene amenities they need to stay healthy.
