Casa Maria Emergency Housing Society

The Casa Maria Emergency Housing Society is run from a duplex located in the Fernwood neighbourhood of Victoria, BC.  Right next door is the Mitraniketan Housing Coop, which funds and runs the society.  Every month each of the twenty families who live there give a percentage of their income to Casa Maria. Without government funding, these people have provided housing for over 200 refugee families and given these families the opportunity to get back on their feet.

But after 20 years and 200 families the duplex needed so many repairs that the society was considering giving away the building for a $1 to a organization that could afford to fix it up and continue doing good.  But at the last minute HeroWork swooped in and completed a $100K Radical Renovation!
